Gadgets, Gems, and Getaways: Step Into Lupin the Third: The Italian Adventure

By Emma Recher, July 9th, 2025

Somewhere between the rooftops of Rome and the vineyards of Tuscany, a master thief is laughing in the distance. Lupin the Third: The Italian Adventure invites you into a world of dazzling heists, double-crosses, and classic anime charm - all wrapped up in a fast-paced tabletop experience where you play as the infamous Lupin gang (or the Inspector trying to catch them!).

Whether you’ve followed Lupin’s antics since the Monkey Punch manga days or discovered him through the sleek “Italian Adventure” anime series, this game feels like a perfect continuation. Each character, Lupin, Fujiko, Jigen, Goemon, Rebecca, is full of personality and brings their own flair and strategy to the table. And, of course, no one gets anywhere without Zenigata giving chase.

Let’s not confuse this Lupin with the French gentleman thief Arsène Lupin,  though they share a flair for impossible escapes and impeccable style. Lupin III isn’t so much his heir as his wild, anime-drenched evolution. It’s all sunglasses, smoke bombs, and getaway cars, and this game leans into it all.

The Gameplay: Heists and Hijinks

Lupin the Third: The Italian Adventure is a dice-driven tactical game for 2 to 5 players. The objective? Be the first to complete your Master Plan and escape Italy with the Priceless Gem. But between you and freedom stands the Opposition, a deck full of traps, guards, and shifting threats.

Each round, players roll a pool of dice and face increasingly difficult challenges. Success earns Plan tokens, which you’ll spend to gain powerful Upgrades or move forward on your Master Plan track. Movement across rooftops and alleys is vital, especially if you’re chasing down (or escaping with) the Gem. You’ll use gadgets, combo dice, and even hop into a getaway car. Timing, risk, and knowing when to press your luck are the keys to winning, or at least staying out of jail.

Anime Energy. Tabletop Brains.

This is Lupin at full throttle, smart, snappy, and dripping with style. The gameplay is clever without being overcomplicated, making it a great pick for anime fans and gamers alike. Whether you’re stealing the spotlight or getting outfoxed by Zenigata, every session feels like a perfectly-paced episode of the show. Slick, stylish, and just a little illegal, this is your perfect getaway game
